Lets face it, buildings, and the ones we live, work, and play in have a huge effect on our lives and our overall happiness. Far too many of them have been built over time to be put up quickly, for maximum profit, with little consideration for how they will benefit and honor the neighborhood they are built in. We believe buildings, if properly designed and built, can improve our towns and cities, lead by example creating civic pride, and create a lasting legacy that honors the communities we choose to live and work in.
Sustainable Village Redevelopment’s mission, is to slowly buy properties, that are within walking and certainly biking distance to most of life’s necessities. Striving to rehabilitate them whenever possible, and ideally adaptively re-purposing them to their highest and best use for the neighborhood and its residents.
We rencently finished our first duplex to 4 plex project in North Park Neighborhood of San Diego. Our Felton Street 4 plex Village includes loaner bikes and surf boards for our tenants and guest. Additionally we have communal organic vegetable plots for tenants to grow their own food. In the next month we will have a 14kw solar system and 20 kw of energy storage on site. Making our community virtually energy independent.
We are now saving to begin looking at our next site in Lake Tahoe are. Ideally we will be adaptively re-using and adding affordable rental units to an older building. Or if we have enough of a tail-wind we would love to build an adventure ranch on some acreage.
Ideally including a mix of long term affordable rental units, short term rental units and a mountain bike and electric dirt bike skills track/trail system. The only limit is our imagination and funds we can save, but we have big fun plans so stick with us!
